Rejuvenate Your Skin with a Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peel

Microdermabrasion (or microderm, for short) and chemical peels are some of our favorite skin-rejuvenation techniques that help reduce the effects of aging, too much fun in the sun, and certain acne conditions. If you're looking into different procedures that will help bring you smooth, regenerated skin, OC Skin Institute's medical dermatologists can help you select the treatment that's best for your goals and type of skin.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a wonderful skin rejuvenator by itself or as a must-have complement to chemical peels or photofacials. During your microdermabrasion session we'll use a wand-like, diamond tipped instrument that acts like a fine sander, combining suction and gentle abrasion to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. As with other skin rejuvenation treatments, you may desire more than one treatment to see optimum results. You'll love the look and feel of fresh new skin that's finally able to show itself.

Chemical Peels Can Enhance the Results of Microdermabrasion

Chemical peels are a non-invasive, attractive choice for skin rejuvenation and maintenance that uses a chemical solution to improve the texture of the skin by removing its damaged outer layers by causing it to "peel" off. Performed on the face, neck or hands, chemical peels not only help reduce fine lines and wrinkles caused by sun damage, heredity and aging, but are also highly effective for treating certain types of acne and scarring as well. Betahydroxy acid (BHA), salicylic acid and Alphahydroxy acid (AHAs) are a few of the gentlest solutions for cosmetic imperfections and mild acne, while severe acne may be treated with a stronger formulation such as trichloroacetic acid. Depending on the deepness of the peel, you can expect a certain amount of irritation, redness, and flaking of dead skin as your new skin begins to emerge; with full recovery time ranging from same-day (as for light peels with microdermabrasion) to one or two weeks for deeper peels.

Our medical dermatologists offer these exciting and effective skin rejuvenation procedures in both of our Orange County locations, Santa Ana and San Clemente.
