What is Botox/Xeomin?
Botox/Xeomin is a modified protein that is injected into small facial muscles to temporarily weaken these muscles. This results in diminishing the facial wrinkles in the area of the injection. The most conventional, common areas of cosmetic use are the forehead, crows feet, and lines between eyebrows. Dr. Critelli is an experienced injector and trained to use Botox/Xeomin in other areas such as lips, chin, neck and nose.
How long does it take to work?
Botox/Xeomin can take up to 10 days before results are seen. The results are temporary until the Botox/Xeomin wears off.
How long does it last?
The results of Botox/Xeomin are variable in different people. It can last anywhere from three to six months. Some people get better results than others. Those with very deep frown lines or thick forehead muscles may not lose the wrinkle completely although it will be less deep and give a softer appearance. When used correctly and repeatedly, these areas continue to improve over time. Younger people may only need Botox once a year.
What are the possible side effects?
Usually there are no side effects. Occasional bruising, mild swelling and headache can occur. On rare occasions, there have been reports of slight depression or drooping of the upper eyelids.
Are there any activity restrictions after treatment?
When injected into the forehead, do not bend over, jump, run or horseback ride for at least 4 hours after treatment. Also, do not touch or massage the site for at least 4 hours after treatment.
Does it hurt?
Very little or not at all. A combination of anesthetic cream and ice is used before treatment to minimize the pain
